“We have been foster
parents at Southmountain for approximately 4 years. Our foster kids, while
some may come and some may go, have been with us since our son was only about
five weeks old. We've shared every experience that every other family goes
through: Thanksgiving dinners, Christmas traditions, late night movies and
popcorn, stomach bugs, pulling teeth, baptisms, weddings, births and even
funerals. We've seen boys become men and girls become women. There is
frequent dancing, laughing, and even some crying in this house. We cook and
eat together, play sports, watch movies, & go to church as a family. We are a
family.”

Jennifer and Michael
Hollifield
The Hollifield couple felt a calling in life to care for children. Although
life time residents of Portland Oregon, they had always found North Carolina
appealing. While researching children’s agencies in NC they discovered
Southmountain. After visiting the foster community, Michael said, “There was
an immediate difference between Southmountain and other agencies we visited.”
Jennifer commented, “Everyone was so welcoming and accepting. It
felt like a family.” They decided
Southmountain was where they would fulfill their mission in life and joined
the foster community. “The abundance of services available to the children and
the support on hand for the professional foster parents is amazing,” stated
Michael. Everyone at Southmountain works together as a team and the heart of
the team is the children. When asked how they plan to be successful at
Southmountain, they responded, “Through God’s guidance and the support of
those around us we know we can provide the structure, consistency and love
these children need.” The Hollifields are excited to be part of the
Southmountain family and have already proved to be an asset to the agency.

Tracy and Adam Scott
Tracy and
Adam Scott discovered Southmountain while searching for the place they would
fulfill their mission to serve children. The foster community at Southmountain
appealed to the Scotts because the setting reflects family life rather than
shift work. The couple joined the foster community in June 2009 from Virginia
Beach after completing graduate programs in Community Counseling at Regent
University. They both enjoy outdoor recreation, and are thrilled to be in the
Blue Ridge Mountains. They love introducing their foster kids to the world
around them here at Southmountain and the surrounding community. Some of these
things include exploring in the woods, gardening, being involved with the
local church and community, and doing things together for fun like going to
the lake or having a game night. They encourage their kids to support one
another by attending each others sporting and school events. Ultimately the
Scotts want to live out the Gospel of Jesus as he said in Matthew 18:5, "and
anyone who welcomes a child like this on my behalf, is welcoming me."
