FAMILY ADVOCATE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Southmountain Children and Family Services is seeking a qualified candidate to join its team as a Family Advocate & Forensic Interviewer.

This role supports the children and families who utilize the services of the Nash, Edgecombe, Wilson County Children’s Advocacy Center, ensuring a continuum of services for children who have been victims of sexual abuse, domestic violence, neglect, or other types of trauma.

The dual focus of this position includes providing comprehensive case management services, offering support, education, and guidance to child victims of crime and their non-offending family members, and coordinating services with multidisciplinary partners involved in the investigation, treatment, and recovery process.

Additional responsibilities include conducting forensic interviews with children who disclose abuse. Extensive specialized training will be provided for this role. Additional responsibilities include collecting and maintaining case data, preparing cases for weekly multidisciplinary team (MDT) case review meetings, participating in and helping facilitate those meetings, and collaborating closely with law enforcement, child protective services, prosecutors, medical providers, therapists, and other community partners to ensure children and families receive timely, coordinated, and compassionate care.

The Family Advocate reports directly to the Children’s Advocacy Center Program Director and is required to work cooperatively with all multi-disciplinary partners.

This position is full-time, 40 hours per week, typically Monday through Friday, but requires flexibility for after-hours emergencies and periodic on-call duties.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher required

  • Preference will be given to candidates with a degree in Human Services.

  • Strong working knowledge of community resources and forensic interviewing is preferred.
